PSL Title Race Who Has The Edge In This Round Of PSL Games Wordpress

PSL Title Race: Who Has The Edge In This Round Of PSL Games? [14 August]

The race for the PSL title is heating up.  With only a half dozen games to go every point matters. Who goes into this weekend with the upper hand? Be it a favourable fixture, injuries, or form.

Highlands Parks v Mamelodi Sundowns

Mamelodi Sundowns come up against Highlands Park tonight. Highlands Park coach Owen Da Gama has stated publicly that his team is not prepared to face Sundowns. Is he playing a Pitsoeque Jedi mind trick or is he simply telling the truth?

Sundowns will be without rights backs Thapelo Morena and Anele Ngcongca through injury. The Brazilians have not lost a competitive match to the Lions of the North but this won’t be an easy game. Highlands Park have talented players and are well-coached too.

Polokwane City v Kaizer Chiefs

Kaizer Chiefs play Polokwane City tomorrow afternoon. City is 14th on the table, level on points with 15th placed Amazulu. Chiefs will know their draw with Bidvest Wits during the week should have been a win. They may take out their frustrations on poor Polokwane City.

Ernst Middendorp and Itu Khune don’t seem to be getting along but Daniel Akpeyi has been doing a good job as Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper. Their main concerns lie with Leonardo Castro’s health

Orlando Pirates v Bidvest Wits

The team that loses this game kisses PSL title race goodbye. A draw will have both teams being left behind in the last sprint to the championship. Orlando Pirates are coming off a dull draw with Sundowns during the week, Bidvest Wits also drew their first PSL game back from lockdown but their game had a bit more spice to it.

Both teams may be a little bit too far behind Chiefs and Sundowns at this stage but, if any of the two could string together a run of wins it would change the whole complexion of the PSL title race.

Pirates will still be without suspended Justin Shonga and Thembinkosi Lorch whilst we don’t know if Thabang Monare will start of WIts.

Who Has The Edge In This Round Of PSL Games?

The team with the biggest upside going to into this weekends games is Kaizer Chiefs. They do have concerns over the health of a key player but they have the easiest fixture. Polokwane City are proficient in conceding goals. They have the third-worst defensive record in the league. No game is ever a walk-over in the Premiership but I like Kaizer Chief’s chances.

Is Supersport United Out of the Title Race

Are We Sure Supersport United Is Out Of The Title Race?

Games in the Absa Premiership will officially resume next week on the 11th of August. A lot of attention has been given to the title prospects of Kaizer Chiefs, Mamelodi Sundowns, and Orlando Pirates but what about Supersport United?

Should they also be considered as contenders for the championship this season?

Before you tap, swipe, or click away from this article, hear me out.

Pitso Mosimane insists that the Absa Premiership title is in the hands of log leaders Kaizer Chiefs but, warned that Supersport United still have a chance.

“Anybody can win the league even SuperSport United can,… Football is not the way we say it. Football is on the pitch and it’s played on the pitch: and then it’s a different story. Mosimane told the SundayTimes.

Pitso Mosimane: ‘it’s Chiefs’ title to lose…’

I always take anything Pitso says with a grain of Himalayan pink salt because he is always playing mind games. After doing my own research, I realized that Mosimane may be onto something.

Supersport United are third on the Absa Premiership table. They are 8 points behind Kaizer Chiefs and have played two more games than Amakhosi. After reading that you probably thinking to yourself:

‘Why didn’t I tap, swipe, or click away from this article again?’

If you take a look at their last six games, Supersport only play one team in the top eight (Orlando Pirates). They have the easiest remaining fixtures among the teams in the top five of the log.

Yes, Supersport United are undeniably inconsistent.  It doesn’t seem likely that Kaizer Chiefs are going to drop 8 points in their remaining eight games. But, stranger things have happened in football.

Sundowns have injuries. Orlando Pirates have yet to click on all cylinders under coach Josef Zinnbauer. The pressure of being league leaders seems to have affected Kaizer Chiefs’ form. The Bidvest Wits team must be an emotional wreck after the sale of the club

Supersport United have won four cup competitions in the past five seasons. They are clearly good at it.  If they could harness their cup form and play every one of their half dozen games like was a cup final, they could make things interested at the top of table.

George Lebese

Lebese Urges PSL Clubs Not To George A Book By It’s Cover

“No one calls, and what I’ve heard, I think people have this illusion that I’m asking for big money… I don’t know about that,” said George Lebese On Robert Marawa’s  Marawa TV.

The former Kaizer Chiefs attacking midfielder has been without a club since Mamelodi Sundowns decided not to renew his contract three months ago. It was rumoured this week that Amazulu were kind of interested but decided to pull the plug on that idea. Supersport United, a club he played for on loan for last season, were said to have called dibs on the 30-year-old’s signature after he left Downs. They changed their mind later when they figured Lebese would be a surplus to their requirement.

“Well, I think for now we are focusing on the players we have, I think we’ve got enough numbers in that position,” Supersport United coach Kaitano Tembo said.

“We’ve got [Aubrey] Modiba, [Kudakwashe] Mahachi, [Thabo] Qalinge and [Evans] Rusike so we are a bit loaded in that department for now, so we will only focus on what we have at the moment.”
