Orlando Pirates get beaten soundly by Esperance de Tunis while Mamelodi Sundowns shoot blanks against ASEC Mimosas in the CAF Champions League.

Matchday 4: AS Tunis 2-0 Orlando Pirates

Orlando Pirates were handed a 2-0 defeat in their CAF Champions League matchday 4 group stage game away to Tunisian giants Esperance de Tunis on Tuesday afternoon.

Orlando Pirates Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic coach insisted that his team was up to the task even though they played an intense, highly emotional, and very boring Soweto derby two days prior.

“We came here immediately after a really tough match on Saturday with the intention to recover, and we did everything possible to do so physically and mentally,” 

“We entered the match very strongly and did very well until one moment of losing concentration cost us so much in that set-piece.

“Once you fall down, as we did in the first half, you’re practically forced to put yourself in extra-attacking mode, risking and using more striking forces to try and equalise.

“During the period of looking to equalise, we conceded the second goal which practically put the game beyond our control.”

CAF Champions League Matchday 3: Sundowns impress whilst Pirates digress

Mamelodi Sundowns made light work of what is a good CAF Champions League side in ASEC Mimosas whilst Orlando Pirates threw the kitchen sink at Esperance de Tunis and missed.

Mamelodi Sundown beat ASEC Mimosas to move top of Group A in the CAF Champions League.

Sundowns are proving to be a tough team to contend with at home in the CAF Champions League. They swept aside what is a good champions league side in ASEC Mimosas. Pitso Mosimane and his team haven’t had a bad week. First the loss to Chippa United in the Nedbank Cup, then the letter, finally a loss to Amazulu in the league.

CAF Champions League: Orlando Pirates smash Horoya and Mamelodi Sundowns bash Wydad Casablanca

Orlando Pirates battered Horoya and are now top of their CAF Champions League Group. Whilst Mamelodi Sundowns registered their first win in their victory over Wydad Casablanca.

All the teams in Group B went into the weekend’s fixtures with one point as they all drew their first games. Espérance beat FC Platinum comfortably during the day the onus was on Orlando Pirates to do the same to Horoya at the Orlando stadium.
