Steve Komphela attributed Kaizer Chiefs’ TKO win to the consistency of his formation but, a week ago he said this line up was forced upon him due to injuries.
Only a wordsmith like Steve Komphela could say two contradicting statement in a space of a week without detection.
“If you go back at teams that have been relegated before, the number of players have been used is far too big…”
My reaction below.
What Steve Komphela is saying here is the injuries to his best players may be a blessing in disguise. Ramahlwe Mphahlele, Tsepo Masilela, Kgotso Moleko, Teenage Hadebe and Emmanuel Letlotlo (the last two guys aren’t that important) are all injured. This has forced Komphela to play his players out of position (like Joseph Molangoane, who is actually bad at every position he plays now that I think about it) and with youngsters from the Kaizer Chiefs development structures.
I’m not sure how true that statement -about the team with the most number of players being used gets relegated is (i.e. I think it’s a lie)-but Kaizer Chiefs didn’t win against Amazulu because of consistency. They won because Amazulu are really bad at defending (2nd worst defensive record in the league) and Simphiwe Tshabalala is on drugs because he is playing like his 24.
